Pity Sex premiere new track “Acid Reflex” from Split 7″ with Adventures

Our friends at Wondering Sound have premiered the new Pity Sex track “Acid Reflex” from their forthcoming split 7″ with Adventures. Here’s what Wondering Sound had to say about the new song:

The Ann Arbor four-piece hasn’t strayed far from their late-’80s indie rock leanings, but the single we got our hands on, “Acid Reflex,” is a return that showcases a shoegaze-y wall of sound. The song is ripe with seething distortion pedals and an interlocking vocal exchange between Brennan Greaves’ lo-fi, deadpan singing and Britty Drake’s chilled-out coo. After the restrained wails of a guitar solo comes to a close, Greaves makes a laundry list of his needs: love, drugs, looks, God, comfort and fortune. Edging into ‘90s emo territory, he’s doing what knows best: baring it all, for better or worse.

Run For Cover Records will release The Flatlands Are Your Friend, Young Statues’ sophomore full-length on October 21, 2014.  For this record, the band returned to Chase Park Transduction Studio, the site of their first demos, to record with Andy LeMaster (Saddle Creek) and local studio staple Drew Vandenberg.  The result is 11 richly intricate, textured  tracks that are arguably the best songs yet from the quartet.   Lush and brooding, The Flatlands Are Your Friend sees the group challenging themselves in new ways, with a result that is as impressive as it is rewarding for the listener.

The Flatlands Are Your Friend follows their critically-acclaimed, 2013 Ace Enders-produced EP Age Isn’t Ours on Run For Cover Records and their eponymously titled 2011 full-length debut. Album art and the track listing can be seen below.  More information and music will be released soon.

Little Big League premiere new track “Tropical Jinx” on Spin

Little Big League have premiered the first new track from their forthcoming album and Run For Cover debut “Tropical Jinx,” out October 14th over at Spin Magazine. Check out what Spin had to say, and stream the new track below.

Tropical Jinx, the upcoming 10-track LP blends emotive indie-punk with post-rock haze, and is due out October 14 through Boston label Run For Cover Records. The band has shared the record’s jangly title track, which is driven by singer Michelle Zauner’s dynamic vocals. Enveloped with a canopy of resonant harmonies, “Tropical Jinx” pulls off dulcet flannel-rock comparable to that of Speedy Ortiz, in just under two minutes.

Modern Baseball – “Pothole” Music Video

mobo_promo

Last week Entertainment Weekly premiered the new Modern Baseball video, “Pothole” for us. Check out what they had to say about the song, and check out the video below.

Philly’s Modern Baseball is at the leading edge of this movement, and may be the most accessible to pop fans who don’t know or don’t care that there’s even an emo revival happening. Their latest single, “Pothole,” foregoes the pop-punk tendencies that define much of their material in favor of lightly fingerpicked acoustic guitar and nakedly raw vocals, to subtly powerful effect.
