Run For Cover to Release Debut Coasta EP

“Run For Cover Records is incredibly excited to welcome Coasta to the family. We will be releasing the band’s stunning debut on vinyl later this summer.

Long Island’s rich musical history has helped to shape a generation of indie, punk and rock music. Both a product of that environment and a contributor to it’s next chapter, Coasta craft brooding, atmospheric pop-rock songs akin to Nada Surf, Bends-era Radiohead and Wilco. Featuring the current three piece lineup of Jamey Lacey, Steve Kupillas and Chris Lorenz, Coasta’s 5-song debut EP blends a diversity of styles, from the folk-y, solemn track “The Slide” to the dense, haunting mid-tempo rocker “Sunzal” all while plying subtle influence from many of Long Island’s greats.

The new 5-song EP is available for stream/digital download now at www.coasta.bandcamp.com. Details on the record, merch and shows coming soon.”

Contributor Blog – Adam Mcilwee (Tigers Jaw) disccuses Kitty Pryde – ‘Ok Cupid’

JUST SNORTED A PILL///FEELING GOOD///LOL

so you’ve heard that kitty pryde song, right? like the cutest track ever? slave on///me too…and i’m completely down. like 100% down.

my favorite songs are soaked in personality and are all about the person behind the song, and that’s exactly what “okay cupid” is. i couldn’t make that track because i’m not kitty. that video is all her, probably acting normal (i have no idea, really…), singing like she probably talks, completely comfortable with playing for the camera, and that’s what makes it really work. and the song is perfect. like, perfect.

i’ve always gotten down with this teen vogue style, because you know these girls are on top of the youth game///total trend-definers, or at least ahead trends enough that they could take it back to high school and totally own it as their own. but sometimes i have a hard time identifying with it because it’s so far removed from me, you know? i don’t know anything about bay area life, so i could bump kreayshawn and v-nasty and kind of get it because i’m kind of young and like 808 sounds too, but because they rep the bay area so hard i can’t completely dive in without it being fake. again, knowing nothing about kitty pryde, i can at least get down with her yeastie girlz shirt and lisa frank laptop stickers, and making the sweetest flirt track seems within the realm of what i’m doing with wicca phase.

i also kind of get annoyed when people attach that “(something) of the minute” label, too, because i’ve always thought songs like this were super important! videos like this make people megastars, but with kitty you get the impression that she could be someone you know (but like, one of the cooler people you know). she made the video happen, owned it, and recorded lines that people definitely wish they could actually say to someone they like. it’s tangible now, and if “okay cupid” isn’t encouraging other girls to get their friends to help them make a cool video, um…it’s at least giving kids a song to dance on each other to at the prom.

and i ? danny brown too, kitty.

Contributor Blog: Adam Mcilwee (Tigers Jaw) Top 5 Smiths Songs

the first time i kissed a girl was on a bus at a church camp my mom was chaperoning. i was 13, and an older girl (17, let’s hope) dared the girl to kiss me, so we made out on the bus. then the older girl dared me to kiss her, so i kissed her too. it’s cool because both girls were really cute, but i’m probably fucked forever, right?

when i first heard “girl afraid,” i knew morrissey wrote it for me, about me. it’s the saddest song///that desire to do something, to make a move, and you want to so bad but…something’s there? i had no idea how to try and kiss my girlfriend for the first time because it came so easy before. and so that wall is there that let’s you think that doing nothing is better than trying and being rejected, that a girl turning you down is so much worse than not doing anything…

and it’s not, at all. worst feeling. and you go home, and you’re stuck with that anticipation that was there before you hung out that day, and it takes a different form…and it hates you for not trying anything, so you convince yrself that the timing wasn’t perfect, even when it was, even when yr completely alone, even when yr openly hard-flirting, even when yr in the same bed…and the attraction is rarely so obvious that the other person makes the move first, right? and then when that other person does make the first move, you suddenly like them less…

and “girl afraid” sounds like a high school party scene, not something a 23-year-old should be living like, every time.

and when you actually like the other person, you really can’t stop thinking about it…

my top 5 smiths songs

1. girl afraid///louder than bombs
2. i know it’s over///the queen is dead
3. well i wonder///meat is murder
4. pretty girls make graves///the smiths
5. stretch out and wait///louder than bombs
