Run For Cover profile on The Fader

The Fader did an awesome interview/feature on our label a few days ago. We talked about Teen Suicide, Elvis Depressedly and a bunch more. Check out an excerpt below or click the image to read the full article.

Run For Cover might be “the future,” but they’re also pretty old school, balancing ambition with the ethos and quality control of a classic record label, the very sort that Mat Cothran says he “dreamt of signing to when [he] was a kid.” They also keep a really great, down-to-earth YouTube channel with a cool mix of service-y fodder for gear heads and lighthearted interviews with artists on their roster (click here to watch Elvis Depressedly talk about getting in trouble as a kid and his favorite UFC fighter). “People have accused us of trying to ‘cash in’ on different genres or something,” Casazza says of the reaction to Run For Cover’s never-look-back attitude. “But that’s obviously ignoring the fact that the music we release now is far less accessible than what we were releasing five years ago. Staying relevant was definitely not a motivational factor.”

Makthaverskan premiere “Witness” single, Pitchfork Best New Music

International post-punk sensations, Makthaverskan, have a lot going on currently. First off, the’ve released a new single titled “Witness” which will appear on a two track 7″ being released on Record Store Day (April 18th). Witness can currently be streamed on Spotify, purchased on iTunes, or if you don’t have Spotify and want to listen to free, Pitchfork is streaming “Witness” along with “Best New Track” honors.

Milner isn’t the sort of vocalist you can easily mimic. Even if you can manage the high notes, it’d be tough to mirror her passion. Milner’s verses are rarely wordy, but her inflections alone convey a song’s heft. “Witness”, from the band’s new tour 7″, is arguably the strongest example to date of what her voice is capable of. Milner doesn’t sing so much as she howls, like Siouxsie, her voice echoing with urgency and despair. As always, she’s a powerhouse, but rarely has her voice sounded so monolithic. This is Makthaverskan’s zone—they write a strong hook and make it exponentially stronger when each musician makes their piece as big and dramatic as possible. – Pitchfork

The band will also be hitting the road in March, alongside Self Defense Family and Creative Adult. The band will be selling the “Witness” single on tour as well. Click “more…” for dates!
